Subway Scene – Relight

This is a relighting of the Subway Scene from the Epic Games Store I worked on during weeks 7 and 8 as part of The Art of Lighting for Games course with Peter Tran and Omar Gatica at CGMA.

Both weeks were specifically focused on lighting the interior environment for our shots, tackling the readability of the environment from a perspective of mood and not gameplay, since the shots have already been predetermined by the cut-scene animator. Another focal point was character lighting. We were looking for character readability and integration into the scene, as well as contrast. Another goal was to lead the viewer’s eye to the important aspects of each shot. Additionally we took an in-depth look at working with UE4’s “Sequencer Editor” to accomplish this, breaking down both the artistic methodologies, and the technical process in achieving the desired look for our shots.

My goal was to create a Matrix like feel, with warm lighting, around 3500K and without using volumetrics. Feedback is as always welcome.
